Cloud ALM Migration

At iSSi, we support our clients through their transition from legacy on-premises Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) tools—most notably SAP Solution Manager—to SAP Cloud ALM. We work with you to review, plan, and successfully execute your migration, moving only what you need. Because SAP is sunsetting mainstream maintenance for SAP Solution Manager on December 31, 2027, this migration is currently a critical strategic priority for organizations using SAP software.

What Is the Goal of Migration?

The goal is not a “lift-and-shift” of all existing data. Instead, it is a targeted migration and process modernization. SAP encourages customers to “migrate only what matters” to avoid carrying over years of accumulated “clutter” or obsolete configurations. That’s where we come in.

Our Core Approach: Selective Data Transfer (SDT)

Rather than moving everything, organizations use a process called Selective Data Transfer (SDT). This allows teams to:

Audit existing data

System changes are expensive, time consuming and risky. Preserve your current system without compromises.

Cleanse and reclassify

Modernize processes during the move by renaming, updating, or
archiving old project data.

Adopt cloud standards

Move away from heavily customized on-premises workflows toward the standardized, cloud-native best practices built into SAP Cloud ALM.

Key Phases of the Migration Journey
Discover & Assess

Use the SAP Readiness Check for SAP Cloud ALM to inventory current data and identify what is ready for transfer versus what should be archived.

Prepare

Set up the SAP Cloud ALM environment, define user roles, and establish the new project structures.

Transition (SDT)

Execute the selective transfer of high-value artifacts from SAP Solution Manager to SAP Cloud ALM. This includes migrating solution documentation and change documents (ChaRM) to ensure critical historical context, compliance artifacts, and process knowledge are preserved in the new platform.

Adopt & Optimize

Fully transition implementation and operational processes to the new platform. Legacy ChaRM-based change management is replaced by Cloud ALM’s modern Features capability, enabling more agile, streamlined change control. We also implement advanced monitoring capabilities—including Job Monitoring, Real User Monitoring (RUM), and System/Health Monitoring—directly in SAP Cloud ALM. These modern tools address key gaps left by the retirement of EarlyWatch Alert (EWA) and other legacy on-premises monitoring features from Solution Manager, delivering superior visibility into job execution, end-user experience, and overall system health.

Why Move to SAP Cloud ALM?
Cloud-native and out-of-the-box

SAP Cloud ALM is a fully cloud-native SaaS solution built on the
SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). It delivers comprehensive, ready-to-use ALM capabilities out of the box—designed specifically for cloud and hybrid SAP landscapes—without requiring custom
infrastructure builds or heavy setup.

Reduced overhead

It eliminates the need to manage underlying infrastructure, updates, patches, and maintenance required by on premises ALM tools, freeing your teams to focus on higher-value work.

Adopt cloud standards

Cloud ALM is SAP’s strategic platform for the future and the recommended path forward for all customers. It receives continuous innovation and full support for modern S/4HANA Cloud and hybrid environments. With mainstream maintenance for SAP Solution Manager ending December 31, 2027, migrating now aligns your organization with SAP’s direction and avoids the risks of operating on a platform approaching end of support.
